preparing to cast the net

casting the net -- water

A good first day– and a fabulous afternoon for getting the props ready for Sunday’s service.

The pictures don’t begin to tell you how well everyone worked together, how impressive the conversation was, how thoroughly covered in paint the baby became.

The joys of last night continue to filter through.  I knew I enjoyed it, and was especially grateful for a sermon that only Kelvin could have preached — but for the very same reasons I loved it, I wasn’t sure how it would come across to others.  Reports are in, and all good.  Praise from young and old, and one comment that ‘it lit the touchpaper for the rest of the night’.  Kelvin has posted the sermon hereRosemary has blogged kindly about it too.

Molly is settling in nicely.

So far, the novely of so many people around outweighs the hassle of it.

And then, after tonight’s rehearsal for the Institution, I found myself in The Tappit Hen, chatting with members of the congregation, listening to a folk band, and really wishing I’d eaten before drinking that glass of wine.

I may still stumble over Dun-blane/Dun-oon, but I have no doubt I’m in a different world.

illogical

I missed the webcast of the General Assembly, and woder if I am reading this right…

It seems that — having decided to uphold the appointment of Scott Rennie to Queen’s Cross Aberdeen on Saturday–  the Church of Scotland is now engaging in a two year process of consultation and study on homosexuality, during which time they are imposing  a moritorium on the ‘ordination and Induction to Ministry’ of any gay person living in a relationship.

Does that mean that gay people who are already in ministerial posts will not be able to take up a new post until at least 2011?  Or does ‘Induction to Ministry’ mean something else in the C of S (Freda?).

I cannot see how the same kirk that argued so persuasively on Saturday that the bibilical teachings on homosexuality did not address the issue of faithful committed relationships can then turn around and exclude people from ministry today.

As I was cooking dinner tonight, I explored how it would feel if the C of S stepped so clearly into bravery while the SEC failed to speak, but it seems I wondered in vain.
