Got it. I can now rejoice with Mary and dream of wild mountain thyme.
Okay, textual confusion. Is this Four Quartets, or a hymn, or both?
magnificat, this time.
Laudate
I had that at my ordination and hardly anyone sang it.
Can we have all the words?
You can find the words here, but you’ll need to scroll down quite a way. It’s ‘D38’, and you start the tune not — as it appears — with the refrain, but with the main verse.
Elizabeth, you probably didn’t grow up singing Wild Mountain Thyme. If you don’t know it, try to coax Kelvin into singing it for you.
Aha! The penny drops. I was confused by the conjunction of Mary and thyme (and too much time with Eliot over the past week). I do indeed know Wild Mountain Thyme. My mum is a folk musician, therefore Wild Mountain Thyme lurks deep in my consciousness. Like a lot of music, it just takes a bit of jostling to shake loose.
Excellent. So can I suggest you and Kelvin sing it as a duet?
Really, the wealth of talent hidden away in this church…
Oh no, no, no, no, no, no! I can’t *sing* it, it’s just in my head. I’d be most appreciative of hearing a solo though.
